Your ELD Deadline Is Tomorrow

URGENT – Your ELD Deadline Is Tomorrow

If you’re running an ELD that’s been removed from the Registered list, tomorrow can turn into a roadside shutdown. Check the Revoked ELD Providers List to verify your status and see the Replace Device By date.

Important: Freight Pro Hub lists the “Replace Device By” date for each revoked provider, which the FMCSA site does not show in one clear place. That date is what tells you when your current device becomes illegal to use.

Can I just use paper logs after the deadline?

Short answer: No.

After January 20, paper logs are only allowed for a limited emergency window if your ELD malfunctions while you’re already in service. Paper logs are not a legal workaround for operating with a revoked or non-compliant ELD.

If you’re operating with a revoked ELD provider and you don’t have a compliant device installed and running, you’re risking a roadside violation for No Record of Duty Status (No RODS) and a possible Out-of-Service order.

What happens if I get stopped and my new ELD hasn’t arrived yet?

Here’s the reality: if you don’t have a compliant ELD active in the truck when the deadline hits, you’re rolling the dice.

  • You can be cited for No RODS
  • You may be placed Out-of-Service
  • Your load, schedule, and revenue can be impacted immediately

“It’s on the way” won’t help you on the shoulder during an inspection. Inspectors verify compliance by checking whether your device is currently registered.

If my provider gets back on the Registered list later, do I have to buy a new one anyway?

Yes — for now.

Even if your provider gets reinstated later, you can’t legally operate starting Tuesday unless your device is currently registered and you have it installed and functioning in the truck.

Their compliance issues can turn into your Out-of-Service order. Don’t let that happen.

Why this matters on the road

ELD issues aren’t “paperwork problems.” They’re shutdown problems. One roadside inspection without compliant logs can end your day, cost you the load, and put your operation under a microscope.

What to do today

  1. Verify your ELD status and the Replace Device By date here: Freight Pro Hub Revoked ELD Providers List
  2. If your provider is revoked, replace it immediately.
  3. Don’t rely on paper logs unless your ELD fails while you’re already in service (and you’re within the allowed emergency window).
  4. Don’t gamble on reinstatements or “we’ll be back soon” promises.

If your truck moves tomorrow, your ELD needs to be legal tomorrow.

P.S. Tool of the Day – Heavy-Duty Jumper Cables

If you end up parked tomorrow dealing with an ELD swap, inspection delays, or roadside issues, cold batteries can turn a bad day into a shutdown. Standard car jumper cables won’t cut it for a rig.

These are long enough and thick enough to actually reach between tractors and move real amps — not just look good in a side box.
